moody in-home session

I've taken photos of C before. I asked her to model some cool products in a lookbook. But this time, I asked her to model some of her favourite underthings from her own closet.

We shot these in C’s old basement apartment right before she moved. It was a chance for me to really prove that I can take photos of people anywhere and make it look good. We timed it for maximum light, but there still wasn’t much, but I love to work a challenge.

I’ve been shooting exclusively in natural light for so long I can pretty much shoot anywhere that isn’t the dark side of the moon. C trusted me and we made these powerful images together.

Hi new friends!

Since this space is brand new and I might be a total stranger to you I’d like to introduce myself.

I’m Yuli, settling into my mid-30s in Toronto, Canada. I wasn’t born here, but I’ve been in the province of Ontario my entire adult life. I have an ongoing love affair with Lake Ontario, and I can’t be far from it’s shores for too long. Such a love affair I made a hashtag for it.

I often talk about how photography is my mother tongue. When I can't express myself or the ideas inside my mind I pick up my camera and find a way. ⁣

I only care about documenting every single thing that brings me joy. People bring me a lot of joy. I live with anxiety and I have been shy (but also bossy) since I was a kid. My heart is so full when I am using my camera to help other people communicate things.

I think that’s enough for a start. I’ll save more for another day.
